I made my own Oracle Deck (Done!)

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

I finally finished Do-it-your-own oracle. I've always been interested in making one for my own. I was inspired to make my this Oracle deck using the art of my favorite heisei aestheticism artists Takato Yamamoto and Kurokawa Inuko.

The purpose of making this Oracle deck is for personal use. I haven't seen any other decks that suit my needs and tastes, so I made one for myself. I also would like to have a deck that would best tell me answers on how to understand the shadows within us. I always wanted a deck that will deliver a strong, unbridled impact. Yamamoto-san and Inuko-san's arts are the best examples that show these flaws through their art.

I named this deck is Nosferatu Cannibalism aka NosCanni Oracle deck. I decided to mix the collection titles of the two artists (Nosferatu by Yamamoto-san and Romantic Cannibal by Inuko-san) to pay tribute to their works. I originally called it "Nosferatu Cannibalism : Anima mea in Umbra" but I had to cut the long title.

The title fits perfectly because of the dark and strong theme of this deck. This will include sensitive and taboo topics (as shown in the art) which I will elaborate / interpret in the guidebook that I am writing. I carefully chosen the words added on each of the cards because the main goal is not to sugarcoat anything but to provide straightforward truths for self-reflection. Some cards will have motivation quotes too to get a good amount of positive balance.

This is the first set I made at home about a month ago. It is a total of 56 main cards + 2 extras as seen in the photos. Each suits have Kings, Queens, Knights, Pages, Aces and Twos until Tens. Ofcourse I don't want to miss out anyone because this is a Minor Arcana deck and not just any ordinary one.

The card size is 4.2 in Length x 2.5 in Width, just the right size for my hands because I usually prefer my cards to be slender. The cardstock is pretty thick because I used 400 gsm red satin cardboard. They were printed in different kinds of textured papers at first before I settle on this final material. The art came out really nice and vibrant. It is also pretty thick despite only having 58 cards in total.

I decided to get the Han'nya design because this entity in Japanese Shinto Folklore is an epitome of "Perfect Wisdom", aside from that, my divinations shop is called Midnight Cat so it's a play on words for 'Han' that means halftime in Japanese, and 'Nya' which is the sound of a mewling cat.

Here are the photos for each of the Suits:

Clubs

Hearts

Spades

Diamonds

This is first print and just a beta sample. I might change a bit of the design then will do a reprint of this deck soon. I already tried using this deck for some practice readings more on the healing and reconciliation. I'm loving the energy that this deck had shown so far. Sometimes it can make you feel guilty but that's actually a good outcome because it's making people realize the hard, harsh truths. Like I said, that is the main purpose of this deck- no sweet talks, just blunt, straightforward answers.

So far, what do you think about this DIY deck? I hope this tickled your interest. Just a disclaimer, this deck will only be for my personal use and will not be distributed in respect of the artists.

This is it for this blog today. Thank you for reading!

Love,

Lisa
