Review: The New Book of Clow version by C.P. Ieng

Hi Everyone! I'm back for another blog! Last week, I ordered a special version of The Clow Book as as a congratulatory gift to myself. I am so excited that it's finally here! I saw this deck a few years back and started to follow the artist's journey, C.P. Ieng, a talented artist who dedicatedly remade our favorite card characters into cutest, lovable chibis. She finally have the stocks ready and I was lucky enough to be able to buy one.


I have not seen any proper review about this deck yet because it's quite new in the market (2019). I thought that it would be great to showcase to everyone the craftsmanship put into this Clow Book. I'll be categorizing the product review into different sections: Packaging, Design, Quality, Pricing, Delivery with each sections having scores to be tallied. 𝓟𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓪𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓰

I received the product well-packed encased in a bubble wrapped brown box and another bubble wrap to secure the Clow Book itself. The Clow Book packaging is an absolute marvel. The box is made of hardbound, sturdy material with 7.5 inches Length x 5 inches Width x 1.5 inches thickness with magnetic strap to keep it closed at all times. It has a total of 50 golden gilt edge cards that's wrapped in plastic. They absolutely made sure that the product is packed intact to avoid any damages. The packing looks so neat and lovely. One thing that's not included in the Clow Book is the card guide. I think the artist decided not to produce one since we can get just get instructions sourced from the official Clow Book Website. 𝓓𝓮𝓼𝓲𝓰𝓷

I commend C.P. Ieng for doing an awesome job with the card character designs. She made her own version of the cards that everyone would easily adore. I love her palette choice of pink and peach with embossed golden linings. It retained the Sakura / Clow deck Clamp version but with a minimalist ethereal touch. The inside of the Clow Book has Sakura's Clow key incantation in gold and has Japanese translation at the bottom. Each card has English and Japanese translations at the bottom too which she included the magical abilities and qoutes. I could tell that the artist took her time to make the designs/format applicable to everyone.

𝓠𝓾𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂

When it comes to buying decks, my biggest concern is the quality. especially the material, printing and size of the cards. I am usually very particular about these factors. Honestly, the material used didn't meet my preference / expectations. The paper is textured, but not even glossed or matted. The cardstock was pretty thin (about 250gsm paper) than to my liking but it doesn't look cheap. It can easily wear and tear if not handled or kept correctly. Although the paper is a little underwhelming, the printing quality is great. I love that she added the embossed golden linings and gilt edges on the cards. The artist made at least 8 printing tests to be able to attain the quality that she's looking for and she did a good job into sticking with this one. As for the size, the cards are 6 inches Length x 2.5 inches Width. It's a half inch shorter than the standard sized Clow and Sakura card.

The price of this deck is intimidating if you are on a budget. I ordered this overseas and paid around $50 for the product alone. Shipping and tax fees aren't included yet. I think that the price is a little high but I decided to push through because it's a one of a kind collectible. I realized that the price is somehow fair after knowing how well-made this is. If you are planning to buy this Clow Book for collectible purpose, it's definitely worth it. It's quite rare to see another version of the Card Captor Sakura deck so it's up to you if you want to buy it while it's still in stock. Visit C.P. I ordered this last September 6, 2020 and was quoted that it may take 10-20 days delivery due to the ongoing shipping restrictions caused by the pandemic but, I was absolutely surprised when it arrived just 9 days after the order date. I love the customer service and the awesome, fast delivery of the product. The response was immediate and they delivered the item same day as I ordered it. I was also informed the whereabouts of my order while it was being shipped out. This was the first time I never had any worries about an overseas order. I decided not to leave the house so I can receive the package, write an instant review and do an unboxing video.

𝓞𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓣𝓱𝓸𝓾𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓼?

Magnificent is the best word I could describe it. There is no bias with the total score even though I'm a big fan of Card Captor Sakura. I am very satisfied of this product as well as the experience of waiting for this Clow Book. I've been wanting to get this fan-made deck for a long time, so I took the chance even though I really hate waiting. I never thought that this will be anxiety-free. Love it!
